Pursue a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) Degree in English at Ó£ÌÒÖ±²¥, offering two concentrations: Non-Teaching (Concentration I) and Teaching (Concentration II). This program provides a comprehensive curriculum tailored to your career goals, with detailed course requirements for both major and minor programs.

  • The Major in English, Non-Teaching  Track  â€“ 120 semester hours are required, including the following three-credit courses: ENG 2332 (recommended option), ENG 3301, ENG 3302, ENG 3303, ENG 3304, ENG 338, ENG 430, ENG 432, ENG 433, and ENG 440 or ENG 441.
  • The Major in English, Teaching Track â€“ 120 semester hours are required, including the following three-credit courses: ENG 2332 (recommended option), ENG 3301, ENG 3302, ENG 3303 or ENG 3304, ENG 338, ENG 430, ENG 432, ENG 433, ENG 439, and ENG 440 or ENG 441.
     Individuals interested in seeking certification for teaching in the public schools of Texas should contact the Teacher Certification Officer in the College of Education at Ó£ÌÒÖ±²¥ for application instructions.
  • The Minor in English requires 18 semester credit hours beyond the ENG 2xxx-level core requirement. These include one additional ENG 2xxx-level course (3 credit hours) and 15 additional credit hours from 300- and 400-level English courses. At least one 400-level English course is required to complete the minor.
  • Professional Writing Concentration â€“ Students must take one introductory professional writing course, ENG 2307, and five additional courses selected from the list below, for a total of 18 credit hours.
    Note: If a student has already taken ENG 338 to satisfy the requirements for the major, they must select another course from the list. Credit for ENG 338 cannot be applied twice.
